Admittedly, winter is my favorite season, and Thanksgiving and Christmas win the race of holidays as well. But you can’t kickoff sweater weather season and not appreciate just how festive Halloween can be. From creative couples costumes, to scary movies, there is so much to get into. And why not kick off the holiday season with a spooky party? A party complete with this poison apple cocktail, that is! Made with the official drink of Autumn, apple cider, this shimmery cocktail will not only wow your guest, but have them thinking you may actually be a witch!
Poison Apple Cocktail
This drink is not only everything we love about Fall, in a glass, but man it has some class! At its core, it is apple cider and alcohol, but boy oh boy is it more than that. It give taste, looks, movement, and a little bit of whimsy. How can a cocktail do that? Well with just 5 ingredients, you can find out!
Start with a cocktail shaker full of ice. To it, add 4 oz of spiced apple cider. I like to used spiced cider as opposed to regular because they have already infused a few extra flavors in there, like cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Regular cider gets its taste solely from apples (which is totally fine BTW). Next add in 1 1/2 oz of vodka. Again, since we are using only a few ingredients, I like to make sure I am getting my bang for my buck with each one. I used a green apple vodka, but a caramel vodka would be GREAT in here as well. Caramel dipped apple vibes!
To the shaker, also add in 1 1/2 oz of either pomegranate juice or tart cherry juice. This is not only for color, but for some tartness to balance out the sweet cider. Optional, but I also like to add just a tsp of maple syrup to bring home the Fall vibes. Finally, the real kicker here, add in just shy of 1/4 tsp of food grade edible glitter/luster dust. This is the ingredient that takes the cocktail from good to AMAZING.
Even though it has no taste, luster dust adds beautiful shimmer to the drink, and when stirred, it creates the most gorgeous moving-ribbons in your glass! Once everything is in the shaker, give it a good shake for 5-10 seconds, and strain into a martini glass or even a champagne flute. The glitter does begin to settle, so use a cocktail stirrer to give each drink a stir right before serving. And just like that, you have spooky, wicked poison apple cocktails for your next Halloween party or even just a fun scary movie night in!
