Hey y’all! Welcome to The Mixed Kitchen!
Let’s jump right to it…what’s mixed in the kitchen? Well, everything! My culture, my experiences, my family and friends, and most importantly, my cooking!
My name is Elisia Plunkett, and I am a living, breathing hodgepodge of stuff! Let’s start at the beginning. I have a Puerto Rican mother and black father. That alone is a pretty great mixture, I’d say, but it doesn’t stop there. I was raised in good ole Buford, Georgia, with parents who are tried and true Yankees, and I have lived all over the East Coast, from New York to Tampa. I’ve been in the college towns of North Carolina (Duke alum in the house!), and the Derby Country of Louisville (also an alum, just not as excited about it)!
So what does any of this have to do with my kitchen? It defines it! My cooking is a direct reflection of the places I have been, the people I have met, and the sites, sounds, and smells of the kitchens I have been in. I’m a self-taught home cook who finds the most joy in sharing the food I love with the people I love.
There is no one style to the recipes I share, because quite frankly, I love it all! I’m healthy-ish, but also love some good game-day grub. I’m an adventurous eater, but surrounded by the pickiest you’ll meet- my fiance has the palette of a toddler! I love salty snack but will never turn down a sweet treat! I’m a southern girl at heart, but that won’t stop me from chowing down on some pasta!
My cooking represents all of this. All in all, I cook what I love, and I find inspiration from all over.
So thanks for joining me on my culinary adventures as I share a mix of comfort, southern charm, balanced eating, and good old fashioned deliciousness, The Mixed Kitchen.
