In honor of the first official snowfall in Georgia since I moved back, I wanted to make a fun winter cocktail. It’s obviously freezing out, so I wanted something on the warm side, but every recipe I found was full of whisky, which I am not a huge fan of. So I looked around to see what I had in the house and came up with the best drink ever! This fun boozy snowman cocktail plays with all of the sense as it blends rich hot chocolate with ice cream and a little bit of booze!

Let It Snow!

The inspiration for this drink is obviously the snow falling out of my window right now. Despite having New Yorker parents who’s sworn enemy is the snow, as a girl raised in Georgia, we did not see a lot of snow growing up. Those coveted snow days where we got to stay home fro school were few and far between. So for a winter storm to pass through today, my best childhood memories are returning to me.

So I wanted to make a recipe that celebrated the snow. Unfortunately, as a Georgia girl, I am not skilled enough to drive on icy roads. Thus, I needed to use what I already had on hand. As a result, my newest favorite dessert cocktail was born. The base of the boozy snowman is a “snowman”. Three scoops of vanilla ice cream in a glass mimic the perfect snowman I was never able to build because we never had enough snow!

Now that the snowman is built, I raided my cabinets for anything else that made sense to make the perfect drink. The result? A great cocktail! Luckily my sister was just here visiting for Christmas, so we had a lot of leftover sweets and snacks, including Torani white chocolate syrup! Use this or even just regular chocolate syrup, and drizzle 2 tbsp right over the ice cream.

My sister also made some fun boozy milkshakes when she was here, so I had some whipped cream vodka and salted caramel Bailey’s on hand. Add one ounce of each to the glass (or a little more if you are feeling festive)! You can surely substitute vanilla or even plain vodka, and original Bailey’s (or my personal favorite, Espresso), but I just used what I had on hand and it made a fabulous combination!

Next, add in 8oz of hot chocolate. My mom, who is ALWAYS freezing cold, made sure I had plenty of instant hot chocolate packs on hand when she came for the holidays, so I used one of those. Feel free to make it from scratch if you want to though! The warm hot chocolate will instantly start to melt the ice cream to make the perfect creamy, sweet blend. Finally top with whipped cream and serve with a straw. This boozy snowman cocktail is the perfect blend of hot and cold, creamy and sweet, and it is sure to lift your spirits on a cold winter day.
