What better way to get in the holiday spirit than with a fun holiday themed cocktail?!? That is why I would like to present my 5 days of holiday cocktails!
Day 1 we have a cranberry whiskey sour. An equally bright, yet earthy and warming classic cocktail gets a new twist with that signature holiday deep red, given by a splash of cranberry.
Classic Whiskey Sour
Whiskey sour, or bourbon whiskey sour depending on what alcohol you use, is my husbands favorite cocktail! We got a brand new cocktail bar tool set for our wedding and I have not heard the shaker stop since! I am not the biggest fan of whiskey, but this cocktail is hard to resist, even for me.
A traditional whiskey sour contains 3 parts whiskey, 2 parts lemon juice, 1 part simple syrup, and an egg white, or aquafaba (garbanzo bean liquid) for the vegan version- this provides the classic foam at the top. My husband is a little freaked out about the egg white/bean juice idea, so he never includes that. But as long as you are using pasteurized egg whites, it is totally safe!
Holiday Whiskey Sour
Turning this traditional drink into a perfect holiday party cocktail is so simple. Start with a cocktail shaker filled about halfway with ice. To it, add 3oz of whiskey (3 parts), 2 oz of fresh lemon juice (2 parts), 1 oz of simple syrup (1 part) and 2 oz cranberry juice (2 parts).
Top the shaker with the lid and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Remove the lid and strain the cocktail into two cobbler or old fashioned glasses filled with ice. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a few fresh cranberries, and serve immediately!
Remember, these measurements yield 2 cocktails, but the parts are listed to easily make more or less (make a whole pitcher for your holiday party!). The ratios are also based on the way my husband likes his drink, but you can definitely play with it to your liking. More lemon if you love the sour, more simple syrup to amp up the sweetness, more cranberry to feel the holiday cheer!
