Start the New Year off on the right foot with these easy and delicious healthy detox juices, sure to help undo all of the holiday bad habits. After the holidays, I was feeling sluggish and so bloated. All of that alcohol and mac and cheese will do that to the body! So as my husband and I were setting our New Year’s resolutions, I knew feeling better was just as important to me as looking better. So, I bought this awesome and inexpensive juicer!
I knew I wanted to find a way to force myself to get my intake of fruits and veggies, but there was no way I was forking out $200+. I am so happy with the one I purchased! It is simple to use with just two speeds, easy to clean, and yields so much juice out of everything!
Why Juice?
There are so many wonderful benefits to juicing. Aside from the essential vitamins and minerals in each ingredient (which I will list below), consuming them in juice form can be very beneficial. Most of the vitamins in fruits and veggies are actually found in the juice, not the pulp. And because one glass of juice requires more fruits and veggies you would typically eat in one serving, you get even more of those micronutrients than you would by chewing you apple and carrots.
It is also believed that juicing is better for you because it allows your body to absorb all of the great nutrients while giving your body a break from digesting fiber. Some say juicing can help prevent cancer, and boost your immunity, but I mostly like it as a way to detox and rid my body of toxins.
Now, I am no nutritionist, so I would not tell anyone to go on a juice-only diet, because you are indeed missing out on a lot of fiber. However, I love to sub out breakfast for these healthy detox juices every day just to kick start my body on the right track.
Green Goddess Juice
I have bought so many green goddess juices from my local grocery stores and I never really like them. They are always really bitter, or overly packed with sugar and preservatives. No green juice should be 420 calories!!! So I came up with this recipe and I love how balanced it is. Plus, all of the ingredients are soooo good for you.
- 1/2 Seedless Cucumber- Cucumber is a great addition to any juice because they are 95% water. Their juice keeps you hydrated, and also contains magnesium and potassium, both of which help keep your fluid levels balanced. This is also great for reducing blood pressure.
- 1/2 Cup Spinach (Packed)- Spinach is full of antioxidants, protecting you from chronic illnesses! It is also full of vitamin A, C, and K for good eyesight. And most famously, spinach is a great source of iron, helping red blood cells circulate oxygen through the body.
- 1 Granny Smith Apple- Apples, like cucumbers, are mostly water, so this is another key ingredient for hydration. Green apples in particular are also low in carbohydrates, and actually help boost your metabolism to help burn calories. So an apple a day can truly keep the doctor away.
- 3 Celery Stalks- Celery is a great detox ingredient because it helps aid digestion, acting as a natural laxative. It is also high in vitamin K and calcium, making it great for bone health.
- 1/2 Lemon (Peel Removed)- Lemon juice is packed full of vitamin C, a key nutrient for preventing diseases. Lemon juice also contains antioxidants to cleanse the liver and detox the body. Put lemon in ALL of your juice recipes!!
- 1/4 Tsp Cayenne Pepper- Now this may seem like an odd addition, but cayenne peppers contain capsaicin, which have metabolism boosting properties. Cayenne can also help keep you feeling full and lower blood pressure.
Carrot Pineapple Juice
For this recipe, I wanted something a little more sweet, but equally as beneficial.
- 3/4 Cup Baby Carrots- Carrots are naturally a little sweet, but that’s not all. They are packed with vitamin A and beta carotene, great for eyesite. Carrots also contains various nutrients, that in combination, prevent free radical and fight cancer. These also include vitamin A, C, B-6, and antioxidants, which also help aid in digestion and detox.
- 1 Cup Chopped Pineapple- Pineapple is not only sweet and juicy, it is also an inflammation fighter, with amino acids and vitamin A. High levels of vitamin C help boost immunity as well. And because it has an enzyme called Bromelain, pineapple is a great digestive aid and cleanser for the body.
- 1/2 Seedless Cucumber
- 1/2 Lemon (Peel Removed)
- 1/3 Tbsp Turmeric- If you don’t have turmeric in your spice cabinet, grab some ASAP. It is one of the most beneficial ingredients known! It contains a medical compound called curcumin, known as a strong anti-inflammatory. Turmeric also helps your body naturally increase it’s antibiotic enzymes, and is known to help decrease the risk of heart disease. Plus it does like 35+ more great things for the body!
Juicing
For both recipes above, the process is simple. Feed all of the ingredients through your juicer, minus the spices. Pour over ice and stir in your spice. You will want to drink them right away, as the nutritional value declines over time.
And if you don’t have a juicer, use your blender! Pop all of the ingredients into a blends and buzz until smooth. Strain using a fine sieve or even squeeze the juice through a cheesecloth. Simple as that. Enjoy these healthy detox juices in minutes with little chopping or prep.
