Is there anything better than a perfectly crafted sandwich? Not just some deli meat on some sliced bread, but like a REAL sandwich! It has to hit all of the notes: crispy or toasty, melty, spicy, sweet, hearty, cheesy. And let me tell you, these baked turkey havarti croissants hit all of those and more. Melted havarti and turkey, sweet jam, spicy arugula, all sandwiched between crispy buttery croissants. Oh and did I mention garlic honey butter? I do not think it is possible to build a more perfect bite.

Sweet and Spicy Turkey Croissants

The best thing about this sandwich is that you probably have all or most of these ingredients already. And if you don’t, there are plenty of good alternatives. To begin, and this is the one ingredient I won’t let you compromise on, is a large buttery croissant! Grab 4 fresh ones from your local bakery or grocery store.

Split each one in half lengthwise. On the top half of each, spread 1 tbsp of honey mustard (or grainy or even dijon). On the bottom, spread a heaping tbsp of your favorite jam, marmalade, or preserve. I used apricot jam for its subtle but sweet flavor, but a bright orange marmalade, or even a tart raspberry preserve would work great here as well!

On the bottom of each croissant, pile on 3-4 slices of your favorite deli turkey and 2 sliced of havarti cheese. Feel free to use Swiss cheese, munster, or even a white American here. Close up each sandwich and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment or aluminum.

Honey Garlic Butter Turkey Croissants

Now that your sandwiches are assembled, preheat the oven to 350. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, melt 2 tbsp of unsalted butter. To the butter, add 1 1/2 tsp of everything but the bagel seasoning, 1-2 cloves of minced garlic, and 3 tsp of honey. Mix together and liberally brush each croissant with the honey butter. Place in the oven and bake for 5-8 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the croissant is golden brown.

Remove the sandwiches from the oven, open each one up, and stuff with 1/4 cup of arugula. Close the sandwiches and drizzle with a bit more honey if desired. Serve immediately while they sandwiches are still warm, with additional honey mustard and jam/preserves on the side. Warm, meaty, cheesy, sweet, buttery, I really don’t know if a better sandwich exists.
